The Lombard Cycling Classic will take place in downtown Lombard on Tuesday, July 22, with road closures from 4:35 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Residents and visitors are invited to witness these thrilling, high-speed bicycle races while also visiting and enjoying our downtown businesses and restaurants.

This family-friendly event is part of the 10-day, nationally renowned Intelligentsia Cup Chicago, a bicycling event series that runs from July 19 to 22 at various locations in the Chicago area. The event, hosted by the DuPage County Convention and Visitors Bureau, features several hundred professional and amateur road cyclists competing in races throughout the day on a designated course through downtown Lombard, and helps bring national attention to the Lilac Village.

Visitors may find parking in the Parkside Metra Commuter Lot, south of the train tracks, and on-street parking in the surrounding area.

Kids & Family Community Ride

Families are welcome to bike the race course in the Kids & Family Community Ride at 6:00 p.m. Pre-register your family at www.bikereg.com/intelligentsia-cup-lombard-fun-ride. After completion of the first registrant, the system will allow you to add additional registrants. Upon completion of registration, you will receive a QR code that must be presented upon check-in at the event.

Participants are required to bring their own bicycles, wear helmets, and meet at the registration tent no later than 5:15 p.m. to check in before the 6:00 p.m. start.

Detour Routes

Vehicles will not be able to access the race route after detours are put in place at 5:00 a.m., and commuters are reminded to plan ahead for traffic delays.

Please note:

  • St. Charles Road will be CLOSED from Elizabeth through Main Street, including the intersection of Main Street and St. Charles Road.
  • The underpass at Main Street and the track crossing at Elizabeth Street will be CLOSED. Vehicles must use the crossings at either Crescent Boulevard or Grace Street to cross the tracks.
  • East and westbound St. Charles Road traffic will be detoured north to Grove Street.
  • North and southbound Main Street traffic will be detoured east to Grace Street.

The last race ends at 8:15 p.m., and road closures will be in place until 10:00 p.m. when the race route has been cleared by public safety personnel.

Residents & Businesses Within the Racing Route

Parking Instructions

Residents and business staff who usually park within the racecourse area must seek alternative parking before the roads close at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22nd.

  • Hourly parking restrictions on N. Lincoln Avenue, Orchard Terrace, and N. Park Avenue will be removed, allowing for overnight parking from Monday night through Wednesday morning.
  • Please keep in mind that if you park on N. Park Avenue, you will need to move out before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, as that is where the stage and trailers will be parking on the day of the race.
  • Parking is also available in Metra commuter parking lots, including the Parkside Lot south of the tracks. Please note that the Michael McGuire lot, located on the north side of the train tracks, is within the racecourse and will not be available.

To help accommodate residents who are required to park outside of the racecourse area on the day of the event, several crossing locations and times will be designated throughout the day, which will be marshaled by event staff. Event staff will offer a golf cart shuttle to residents or business employees needing assistance to/from their alternative parking site on Tuesday. This will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reminder for Businesses

Businesses requiring access from St. Charles or Michael McGuire Drive should reschedule any deliveries to alternative days of the week. Delivery vehicles will not be allowed within the course from 4:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Local Businesses Remain Open

Residents and event goers are encouraged to shop and dine at local businesses. Soft road closures will be in place between Grove and St. Charles; however, access to local businesses remains open. Accessible parking will be available behind Gnarly Knots on Orchard Terrace throughout the day.
