At the Village Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, September 19, 2024, the Board approved updates to the Village’s Storm Debris Management Policy. The updates are designed to improve the Village’s response to storm debris collection and ensure clear and consistent application of the policy following severe weather events.

Key updates include the following:

  • The Village has divided the area into six zones, aligned with the Tree Inventory Zones, to evaluate storm impact on a more localized basis.
  • Following a storm event, the Village will complete an assessment of affected zones within 48 hours.
  • A “Village Response” will be activated if:
    • 75 or more parkway trees in a single zone sustain damage to limbs with a diameter of three (3) inches or greater, or
    • 150 or more parkway trees across abutting zones sustain damage to limbs with a diameter of three (3) inches or greater.
  • If a “Village Response” is activated, debris must be placed on the parkway within seven (7) days of the storm for collection. Debris set out after this period will not be collected by the Village and must be handled by a private contractor or through Waste Management. This seven-day period may be extended at the sole discretion of the Village based on the severity of the storm.
  • If the National Weather Service (NWS) confirms a tornado has touched down in Lombard, the Village will collect debris from private property tree limbs within the tornado's path. Property owners must place debris on the parkway within seven (7) days of tornado confirmation.

Residents will be notified through the Village’s website, social media and e-newsletters when a “Village Response” or “Private Response” is activated.
