Beginning April 8, 2024, the Hammerschmidt Commuter Parking Lot, located on St. Charles Road immediately across the street from the Downtown Lombard Fire Station, will have a reduced number of spaces available to the general public through August 18th. The Village of Lombard has entered into an agreement to lease 150 of the 205 total spaces in the Lot to Lombard Tower Condominiums to prevent potential parking issues during required structural repairs to their parking facility, leaving 55 spaces available for commuters. The lease agreement will allow Lombard Tower tenants to use the Hammerschmidt parking spaces rather than parking on neighboring streets, which would cause congestion in the area and impact public safety vehicle access.
Commuters that regularly use the Hammerschmidt Parking Lot for Metra parking are advised to plan ahead and consider alternative options. Lombard commuter parking lots offer close to 600 spaces, with current usage at approximately 55% from Tuesday through Thursday and around 40% on Monday and Friday. Throughout the week, over 200 spaces remain available. There are ample alternative parking options, which are highlighted in the Downtown Parking map available at www.villageoflombard.org/downtownparking.
The Village of Lombard is committed to ensuring a smooth transition during this temporary closure. Updates and additional information will be provided on the Village's website at www.villageoflombard.org. Residents and commuters are encouraged to subscribe to the Village's weekly e-newsletter at www.villageoflombard.org/epride and follow the Village's social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for timely updates and announcements.
