[ARCHIVED] National Public Works Week: May 19-25

National Public Works Week - 2024 (395)

National Public Works Week is May 19-25, and this year’s American Public Works Association (APWA) theme is "Advancing Quality of Life for All." This theme shines a spotlight on how public works professionals advance our quality of life, whether as first responders to an electricity outage, regular waste pickup, or in a myriad of other ways they silently serve their communities.

This week reminds us to appreciate the ways in which public works professionals provide essential services that lead to healthier, happier and more vibrant communities. Our very own Lombard Public Works Department maintains 278 miles of roadway, 185 miles of water main, 136 miles of sanitary sewers, 112 miles of storm sewers, 3,390 street lights, 37 traffic signals, 36 facilities, 220 miles of sidewalks and over 19,000 parkway trees. Public works staff ensures the highest quality and safety of our drinking water, oversees construction projects, and is always prepared to address street, water, and sewer-related emergencies at a moment's notice. They are what makes our community such a great place to live, work, and visit.

Join us in celebrating the quiet work these professionals do that makes life better for all of us. For more information about Lombard Public Works visit www.villageoflombard.org/publicworks. For information on Lombard construction projects, please visit www.villageoflombard.org/construction
