At last night’s Village Board Meeting, the Lombard Board of Trustees voted unanimously (with one abstention), to allow cannabis dispensary facilities in Lombard, as either permitted or conditional use, depending on location. The Village Board’s actions did not approve any specific cannabis establishments. A video of the meeting and a map of the permitted or conditional use areas is available at www.villageoflombard.org/recreationalcannabis.
The state of Illinois has approved the use of recreational cannabis, beginning Jan. 1, 2020. This decision will allow the use of recreational cannabis (with restrictions) throughout the state. The Village Board’s decision allows for potentially interested businesses that are licensed and regulated to open a recreational cannabis dispensary business in Lombard.
The Village Board approved cannabis dispensaries as a permitted use in the O (office), I (industrial), and B4A (Roosevelt Rd.) zoning districts. The Village Board approved cannabis dispensaries as a conditional use in the B1, B2 (neighborhood commercial), B3, B4 (corridor commercial), B5, and B5A (downtown and downtown perimeter) zoning districts. Any recreational cannabis dispensary facilities wanting to open a business in a conditional use area would require the approval from the Village Board after a public hearing is held by the Plan Commission. Such business seeking to open in permitted areas will still be required to meet all state regulations and local codes. The Village’s complete zoning map is available at www.villageoflombard.org/maps.
