Beginning in January 2024, the Village’s combined water and sewer rate will be $16.90 ($9.76 for water and $7.14 for sewer) per 1,000 gallons of water used for customers within the Village limits. This cost reflects a 40-cent increase per 1,000 gallons of water, compared to 2023.
For example, a residence in Lombard that uses 5,000 gallons of water each month will see an increase of $2.00 per month or $24 for the year.
The Village receives its water from the City of Chicago. As Chicago raises its rates, the Village must also raise its rates to purchase wholesale water from the City of Chicago, and to fund operating expenses and capital improvements.
Additionally, the Village’s monthly capital fixed fee will increase from $5.75 to $6.00. This capital fixed fee was implemented in 2020, and is utilized to help fix and replace aged infrastructure. The repair and replacement costs of sewer and water systems are estimated to be approximately $22.5 million for sewer and $6.4 million for water system improvements, as outlined in the 2024-2033 Capital Improvement Plan.
