Downtown sidewalk with text

On October 3, 2022, the Village led a presentation regarding the Downtown Sidewalk Rehabilitation Project and allowed attendees to review the preliminary plans and ask questions. To view the full presentation, click here

As part of the Village’s 2023 Capital Projects Program, the Village will be rehabilitating the sidewalks along St. Charles Road between Charlotte Street and Elizabeth Street.  The scope of the project includes removing and replacing the existing brick pavers with a concrete sidewalk between the building and tree vaults with decorative pavers set between the tree vaults and curb, removal and replanting of trees and landscape elements, as well as revisions to the streetscape elements.

The work is being conducted to improve the walking surface, address issues related to compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requirements regarding slope and cross slope of sidewalks, and improve the general aesthetics in the downtown corridor.

The Village has contracted with Robinson Engineering Ltd. to prepare plans and specifications for the project. The work is anticipated to begin in April 2023 and extend through the summer.  The project will be carried out in phases to minimize the impact on events conducted in downtown through the summer months.

The primary contact for this project will be Mike Barbier, Civil Engineer II, with the Village of Lombard. Mike may be reached at (630) 620-5740 or at barbierm@villageoflombard.org. In addition, the Village will establish a specific webpage for the project on the Village website and will provide frequent communications before and during the construction period.

Thank you in advance for your assistance as we undertake this important improvement project.
