The Lombard Police Department is pleased to announce that the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Committee awarded the Department first place in their 2021 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge (ITSF) for its commitment to highway safety in the community. The Department also received the Judge’s Choice Award for the best agency submission.
“Traffic safety remains a top priority of the Lombard Police Department, and receiving these awards distinguishes our Department as one of the top agencies in the State for our overall approach to traffic safety,” commented Police Chief Roy Newton. “Our officers work tirelessly to help keep our village roadways safe for residents, businesses and visitors.”
The awards were presented by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) during the ITSF Awards Luncheon on Friday, August 19, 2022, at the Midwest Security and Police Expo in Tinley Park, Illinois.
The Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge is coordinated by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and supported by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) grant administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The challenge targets four major traffic safety priorities: occupant protection, distracted driving, speeding and impaired driving, in addition to other traffic safety initiatives. Programs receiving the award effectively combine traffic enforcement, public education activities and innovative problem-solving strategies.
Applications are judged by law enforcement and traffic safety professionals from around the State. The Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge award recipients manage comprehensive programs within their communities that identify traffic issues, plan strategies, reduce social harm and improve the quality of life in their communities.
