National Public Works Week is May 15-21 and this year’s American Public Works Association (APWA) 2022 National Public Works Week theme is "Ready and Resilient". This year's theme showcases the superheroes that lie within the Public Works professional. The "Ready & Resilient" theme highlights the ability of these professionals to perform routine public works duties while being ready at a moment's notice to react as first responders during emergencies and natural disasters.
The Lombard Public Works Department plays a significant role in our daily lives, such as ensuring the roads are ready to use and water is of the highest quality and safe to drink. The department is responsible for construction, maintenance, and repair of the Village's infrastructure and grounds/facilities (i.e., repairing streetlights, filling potholes, trimming parkway trees, replacing damaged sidewalks); and street, water, and sewer related emergency services (i.e., water main breaks). Our Public works superheroes are what makes our community such a great place to live and work!
This week allows us to energize and remind everyone of the importance of public works in our daily lives from the sidewalks we walk on, the safe roads we drive on, to the freshwater we drink.
