Did you know that a fire can double in size every minute?
In an emergency every second counts – and when a fire hydrant is covered in snow, crews lose precious time trying to dig it out.
Help protect your family and neighbors when seconds count by becoming a Hydrant Hero. The Village of Lombard and the Lombard Fire Department are encouraging residents to adopt a fire hydrant near their homes and keep snow shoveled away from it during the winter season.
Residents who have hydrants nearby are asked to make sure the hydrant is cleared of snow 3 feet all around the hydrant so firefighters can easily connect a hose. These actions will allow the fire department to quickly locate the fire hydrant and obtain the necessary water supply for firefighting.

Thank you for keeping the Village of Lombard’s fire hydrants clear of snow and helping our firefighters keep you, your family and our community safe.
