The Public Works Department is conducting a Village wide Water Distribution Leak Survey. The purpose of this leak survey is to locate leaks in the Village’s water distribution system that are not surfacing. Village crews will excavate and repair identified leaks to reduce water loss. The Village contracted with M.E Simpson Co., Inc. to perform the survey. Crews will be opening manhole lids to attach sensors to the water valves and hydrants to “listen” for leaks. The contractor’s vehicles as well as their workers will have their company logo displayed. A brief description of the process is as follows. Please contact the Public Works Department with an questions or concerns.
Correlators are microprocessor units that measure the time it takes the sound of the leak to travel from (A) the leak to (B) the point where the leak detection correlator is connected to the water line. By connecting the leak correlator out stations to the water line at two locations bracketing the suspected leak, the correlator analyzes the time delay difference between the sound waves received at each outstation, thus giving the distance from the leak to each connection point enabling us to determine the exact leak location.
ME Simpson Co will be conducting water leak detection survey for the next several weeks. Crews will be opening manhole lids to put listening devices on water valves, as well as hydrants.
