The Village of Lombard was pleased to recognize Jim and Carol Wixon as the 2025 Senior Man and Senior Woman of the Year during the 19th Annual Lombard Senior Fair, held Wednesday, October 1, at the Madison Meadow Athletic Center. These annual awards recognize Lombard residents aged 65 and older who have made remarkable contributions to the community through volunteerism, leadership and service.
Jim and Carol Wixon have been dedicated to the Lombard community for more than five decades, raising their family here and devoting countless hours to improving the lives of others. Together, they have played an active role in supporting First United Methodist Church of Lombard and the Outreach House, where they help organize food distribution, assist with the Clothes Closet and greet guests with warmth and compassion.
Carol continues to make a meaningful impact by handcrafting “care pillows” that offer comfort and encouragement to those experiencing illness in local hospitals and clinics. Jim’s calm and dependable presence complements these efforts as he helps distribute food, collect donations and support Carol’s volunteer initiatives. Together, their service, compassion and teamwork reflect the values celebrated by this award.
“It’s a privilege to celebrate Jim and Carol and the many ways they’ve made a difference here in Lombard,” said Trustee Jessie Hammersmith, Chairperson of the Community Relations Committee. “Their lifelong commitment to helping others shows how powerful simple acts of service can be. They’ve brought people together and helped care for those in need.”
Additional nominees for the 2025 Senior of the Year awards included Don Comfort, Cathy Folz, Velta Kopacek and Steve Turner.
This year’s Senior Fair welcomed more than 450 attendees and featured a variety of services, including flu shots, hearing screenings and more than 70 vendors providing valuable resources and information for seniors.
