The Lombard Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to increase traffic safety enforcement throughout the month of July. This coordinated statewide effort focuses on reducing speeding and improving safety on Illinois roads.
Motorists can expect to see increased patrols focused on speeding and other traffic violations from July 8 through July 31.
“Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving behaviors. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous,” said Sergeant Tom Balsitis. “Speed limits aren’t a suggestion – they are the law.”
Speeding significantly raises the risk of crashes by reducing a driver’s ability to safely navigate around other vehicles, unexpected curves or obstacles in the roadway.
During the speeding enforcement campaign, officers will increase enforcement of posted speed limits throughout the Village of Lombard. This will include roadways that experience the highest number of speed violations, as well as other residential roadways. Violators will be stopped and ticketed, with the goal of saving lives and making roads safer for all.
This initiative is part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign, supported by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT. It also aligns with IDOT’s broader "It’s Not a Game" traffic safety media campaign.
