Update: Nicor has made initial repairs to address the gas leak and the area has been given the all clear. Lombard Police are notifying residents and businesses in the area that it is safe to return.
St. Charles Road has been reopened, although a detour remains in place for eastbound traffic between Park Ave and Main St to allow Nicor to safely complete repairs.
Original Notice: St. Charles Road is currently closed from Main St to Elizabeth St due to a gas leak. The leak was caused by construction work related to the downtown sidewalk project. Nicor is currently on the scene and working to fix the leak.
As a safety precaution, all businesses and residents located in the area of St. Charles Rd between Main St and Park Ave from Orchard Terrace to Michael McGuire Dr have been evacuated. Police are asking individuals to remain out of the area until further notice.
An update will be shared once the area is cleared and the road is reopened.
