Sign up for Lombard’s 32nd Annual Lombard Citizen’s Police Academy

Are you interested in learning about the Lombard Police Department and how it operates? If so, sign up for the Lombard Police Department's 32nd Annual Citizen’s Police Academy, beginning September 13th. The program is led by Lombard police officers and designed to provide participants an understanding of how the police department operates, modern police procedures and an inside look at the challenges officers face when serving the community.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is a free, 10-week program held on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave, and nearby locations. The program will begin on September 13 and run through November 15, 2022.

Applications are due by August 26th, and are available for printing on the Village’s website at www.villageoflombard.org/cpa, or may be picked up at Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave, or at the Lombard Police Department, 235 E. Wilson Ave.

Back to School Safety Tips

As students prepare to return to school, take the time to review some tips and reminders to help them have a safe school year.

Slow down in school zones.
Watch for children crossing streets, and for directions from crossing guards.
Put your phone away.
Be extra vigilant on streets adjacent to schools, especially at the beginning and end of school days.
Watch for children darting out from between parked cars.
Put your phone away - state law bans the non hands-free use of cell phones and texting while driving.
Drop off and pick up in designated areas.
Stop for buses loading or unloading students.
Watch for warning signs and signals.

Monkeypox Virus Declared a Public Health Emergency

On August 1st, Governor Pritzker issued a proclamation declaring the monkeypox virus a public health emergency and declaring the state of Illinois a disaster area regarding the disease. The declaration, which applies to the entire state, will allow the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to utilize resources for coordinating logistics across state agencies, quickly and efficiently aid in the distribution of vaccines and in the prevention and treatment of the disease. The proclamation will also assist state agencies in coordinating a response with the federal government.
