The 2022 Lilac Parade Returns to Lombard on Sunday, May 15th

The 2022 Lilac Parade is returning to Lombard this Sunday, May 15, 2022. The parade will begin at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St, and head north towards Maple St. at 1:30 p.m. In order to help ensure a safe and orderly event, Lombard Police Chief Roy Newton announced temporary parking restrictions and a road closure during the Parade.

Parking restrictions will be implemented in the area, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. Refer to the 2022 Lilac Parade Parking Restrictions map for details. When possible, Lombard residents are encouraged to leave their cars at home and walk to the Parade.

Residents and attendees are urged to cooperate with the Village and the Lombard Lilac Festival Parade Committee to help prevent individuals from removing the posted "No Parking" signs before and during the Parade. Additionally, everyone is advised to follow the temporary parking restrictions so the Parade can run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Lombard Police Remind Motorists to ‘Click It or Ticket’

As summer kicks off and travel increases, the Lombard Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation to remind motorists to Click It or Ticket. The seat-belt enforcement campaign will take place May 13 – 31, 2022, and focuses on safety education and law enforcement to save lives.

“Seat belts have proven to be one of the best tools to save your life in a crash,” commented Traffic Safety Unit Officer Dan Herrera. “Unfortunately, many still don’t buckle up. Worse yet, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that can be passed on to younger generations who follow these examples.”

It's National Police Week: May 11 - 17

Communities across the United States recognize National Police Week, to honor and remember those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind. Lombard Officers who were killed in the line of duty include John Frost, killed Sept. 1936; Louis Schuetz, killed July 30, 1933; and Allan Mollsen, killed Sept. 28, 1986.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
