At approximately 12:15 a.m., on Tuesday, October 29, the Lombard Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire, with possible victims trapped, in the 200 block of West Collen Drive. The first arriving fire unit reported heavy smoke conditions and moderate fire involvement on the second floor of the single-family residence.
Upon arriving, crews immediately initiated a primary search for victims and began extinguishing the fire. A victim was rescued from the second floor and was removed from the home. Advanced life support care was initiated by Lombard paramedics. The patient was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
The fire was contained within twenty minutes of dispatch. The Lombard Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Villa Park, Downers Grove, and Oakbrook Fire Departments, as well as the York Center and Oak Brook Terrace Fire Protection Agencies.
One Lombard Firefighter received a minor injury and was treated and released on scene.
