Protect Your Property from Theft: Lock It or Lose It

The Lombard Police Department is reminding residents that one of the most effective ways to prevent theft is to lock your property. Whether you're at home or out and about, taking a few simple steps can make all the difference.

Lock Your Vehicles

Did you know many car thefts occur because the vehicle was left unlocked with the keys/fob inside? Thieves will often target cars that are easy to access, so make sure you always lock your vehicle when you leave it and take your keys/fob with you. Even if you're only going to be away for a few minutes, it's worth taking the extra time to secure your car.

Lock Your Home

Your home is your sanctuary, but it's also a target for burglars. To keep your property safe, always lock your doors and windows when you leave, even if you're just popping out for a short time. If you have an alarm system, make sure it's always activated, and consider installing motion-sensor lights or cameras to deter thieves.

Lock Up Your Valuables

Valuables like jewelry, electronics, and cash can be tempting targets for thieves. To protect your valuables, always lock them up when you're not using them. Keep them out of sight and consider using a safe or a locked drawer to store them.

If You See Something, Say Something

If you see someone checking car doors in your neighborhood or acting suspiciously, call 911 immediately. Your quick action could prevent a theft or burglary from occurring.

Remember, taking a few simple steps to lock your property can go a long way in preventing theft. By working together, we can keep our community safe and secure. If you have any questions or concerns about crime prevention, please contact the Lombard Police Department at (630) 873-4400.
