Based on recently amended FDA guidance, Versiti is now accepting donors who spent time in certain European countries between 1980 and 2001. This means that many of those individuals who were ineligible to donate previously may now be eligible. Including those who:

  • Spent time in the United Kingdom from 1980-1996
  • Spent time in France & Ireland from 1980-2001
  • Were U.S. Military personnel that were stationed in Europe
  • Received a blood transfusion in the United Kingdom, France, or Ireland from 1980-present.

Safety Precautions and Social Distancing While Donating Blood

Blood donation is considered an essential activity. Safe social distancing measures will be in place to ensure donor safety. These measures include prescreening both staff and donors for COVID-19 symptoms, including taking donors’ temperature, complying with social distancing with beds six feet apart and/or separated by a partition, wiping down surface areas and beds after each donation, and providing only packaged snacks and drinks. Versiti staff members are following many new safety measures to ensure donor safety, as well as their own.
