[ARCHIVED] Holiday Light Recycling

Holiday Light Recycling (395 x 305 px)

Holiday Recycling Opportunities

  • Light Recycling Through Jan. 16
Recycle your old or unwanted holiday lights, extension cords and scrap wiring this holiday season. The Village of Lombard has partnered with Elgin Recycling to offer residents holiday light recycling from Nov. 24 through Jan. 16, 2023. A collection bin is located in front of the Public Works building and is accessible at any hour. Please remove any plastic ornamentals and bags from the lights and chords to prevent entangling in the processing machinery—similar to curbside recycling.

Tips for Wrapping Up the Holidays

As many residents prepare to wrap up the holidays, below are some tips and reminders to keep in mind:

  • Trees and garland will be collected for free on your normal service day from January 3rd to 13th. They’ll be mulched so please remove all ornaments, lights, wiring and tinsel. Take care that the tree does not become covered with snow or frozen to the ground.
  • Light strands may be dropped off in front of the Public Works building at 1051 S Hammerschmidt anytime (24/7) through January 16th. No plastic bags or yard ornaments, please.
  • Gift wrap is only recyclable if 100% paper. (Tape is fine). Plastic and foil wrap, ribbons and bows are NOT recyclable curbside.
  • Cardboard boxes should be folded to fit within your cart. As a reminder, do not place your carts in the street.
  • Styrofoam is NOT recyclable curbside. It should be disposed of as trash or dropped off for specialized recycling to remold. Many religious educational institutions arrange such collections and community recycling events as well.
  • Please donate any unneeded gifts to local community organizations.
  • Decorations should be displayed no longer than 60 days after each holiday. February 14th is for loved ones, not Santa!
