During the winter months, November 1 – March 31, residents may park their recreational vehicles in their garage, side, or rear yards as long the vehicle is on a hard surface, in the front yard past the setback of 30 feet, or at an off-site storage facility.
The ordinance first took effect on November 1, 2014, to limit the parking of recreational vehicles in the front yard of single-family residential properties. The front yard is generally defined as the first 30 feet from the front property line.
“This ordinance will help keep front yards clear of such vehicles during the winter months when they are used less,” said William Heniff, Director of Community Development of the Village of Lombard. Heniff is also reminding residents that recreational vehicles with wheels removed or those permanently affixed to the ground are not permitted, per Village Code.
