On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at approximately 8:09 a.m., the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on the 400 block of South Park Rd. The first Fire Department crews arrived at 8:12 am and found the single car attached garage fully engulfed in fire with an extension of the fire leading into the house.

Crews immediately initiated a primary search of the residence while simultaneously fighting the fire in the garage and the house. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. There were no injuries to any firefighters, however, the resident of the home was found deceased during the course of extinguishing the fire.

“This is a devastating tragedy. The Department extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Deputy Fire Chief Ray Kickert.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Lombard Fire Investigation Unit, Lombard Police Department and the DuPage County Arson Task Force. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the home and garage.

The Lombard Fire Department was assisted by the Addison and York Center Fire Protection Districts as well as the Elmhurst Fire Department. The Lombard Police assisted with traffic and crowd control.
