[ARCHIVED] Life Saving Awards Presented to Three Lombard Residents

Life-Saving Awards 395

During yesterday’s Village Board meeting, Samantha Cihak, Andrea Wagner and Gail Dukes, three health care professionals, were recognized for their lifesaving actions earlier this month.

On the afternoon of June 1st, an 80-year-old Lombard resident was grocery shopping with his wife when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and collapsed to the floor. Fortunately, three healthcare professionals, also Lombard residents, recognized the need for immediate lifesaving intervention and sprang into action. They recognized that the patient was in cardiac arrest, and provided high-quality continuous CPR.

Within two minutes of the initial call, Lombard Paramedics arrived with Lombard Police arriving just moments prior. A police officer applied their AED to the patient which indicated the need for a defibrillation shock, the shock was delivered, and CPR was resumed.  The patient’s care was quickly transferred to the paramedics who continued Advanced Life Support procedures and transported the patient to a local hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient received critical interventions and was discharged in good health just a few days later.

Please join us in thanking these three Lombard residents as well as our Firefighters/Paramedics and Police Officers for their selflessness, professionalism and quick action which helped save this man’s life.
