[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Safely: This Labor Day, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

The Lombard Police Department today announced its plans for a traffic safety campaign this Labor Day weekend, focusing on impaired driving and other dangerous behavior such as distracted driving and failure to buckle up.

“We need our community to understand that it’s up to each of us to make the smart decision to drive sober on Labor Day and every day,” said Lombard Police Traffic Safety Unit Officer Daniel Herrera. “Motorists in Lombard should expect stepped-up impaired driving patrols and seat-belt enforcement, particularly at night when seat-belt usage rates are at their lowest.”

The Lombard Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois for the increased statewide effort. Lombard Police will have extra patrols on the road, cracking down on drunk and impaired drivers and seat belt violators, including a roadside safety checkpoint on Friday, September 3rd at an undisclosed location.

This Labor Day weekend, remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family drive drunk or impaired by drugs. Even a small amount of alcohol or other drug can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.

The Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
