Ruse Burglary Safety Reminder

Social Image Police Department Update

The Lombard Police Department is reminding residents to be cautious of ruse burglaries. As spring weather returns, nearby communities have been experiencing a number of ruse burglaries, in which one person distracts a home owner, while a different person sneakily enters the home to steal jewelry, cash, or other items of value. Crews may pose as construction workers, tree trimmers, and yard/lawn maintenance workers.

Residents are reminded to make sure companies are legitimate and to not let people in their house. Most legitimate companies will have professional attire, business cards, and proper signage on trucks. Residents should not hesitate to contact 9-1-1 if they witness, experience, or suspect anything suspicious.
