11.10.2020 Village of Lombard COVID-19 Update
Additional Mitigations To be Implemented
On Monday, November 9th, the State of Illinois announced that due to ongoing increases of COVID-19 spread and positivity rate increases, that Region 8, including Lombard, will be impacted by Tier 2 mitigation measures, in efforts to slow the spread of illness.
Beginning Wednesday, November 11th, Tier 2 mitigations will be put into place. Tier 2 (outlined below), includes all restrictions of Tier 1 but further restricts party/table sizes for outdoor dining in restaurants and bars from 10 to 6 people. Tier 2 also limits both indoor and outdoor meetings, social events, and gatherings to 10 people.
The Village Urges Residents to Take Action Now
The Village of Lombard is dedicated to providing residents with uninterrupted service levels, despite increasing COVID-19 positivity rates within the community. Extra precautions are being observed by staff, and first responders continue to answer emergency calls potentially related to COVID-19 donning appropriate PPE.
Region 8 surpassed the State’s 8% positivity rate threshold on October 15th. Since that time, positivity rates have continued to increase. As of November 6, Region 8’s (7 day rolling average) positivity rate was 13.7%. According to the DuPage County Health Department, Lombard has experienced 410 confirmed cases of COVID-19, from October 20th – November 7th. Additionally, hospital admissions for COVID-19 like illnesses have increased in the past 22 days, with 54 new patients admitted to Region 8 hospitals in one day (Nov. 6th).
Next Steps Pending Increased COVID-19 Positivity Rates and Hospitalizations
The State has outlined additional mitigations in Tier 3 that may be implemented should COVID-19 positivity rates and/or hospital admission rates continue to increase. Tier 3 includes the suspension of non-essential retail, salons and personal care operations, as well as indoor and outdoor recreational activities, and elective surgeries and procedures.
In order to roll back increased mitigations and return to Phase 4, a region must average a positivity rate of less than or equal to 6.5% over a 3-day period. To help support your first responders and to reopen local restaurants, residents are urged to help slow the spread of illness by following these CDC Guidelines:
- Maintain a 6 feet social distance minimum.
- Wear a face mask when in public.
- Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
- Clean and sanitize commonly used surfaces.
- Quarantine for 14 days if returning from a COVID-19 hotspot.
- Avoid group gatherings.
