At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, October 11, the Lombard Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 660 Butterfield Road.
Upon arrival, it was noted that there was light smoke coming from a vacant office building on the second floor. The alarm was escalated for extra manpower due to the size of the building. Crews were able to gain access through a boarded-up door and were able to quickly locate and extinguish a rubbish fire located in the northwest corner of the building.
A search of the building determined the fire was contained to the room of origin. Crews remained on the scene to complete salvage and overhaul. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lombard Fire Investigation Unit. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The Lombard Fire Department was assisted by the following Fire Departments. Elmhurst, Downers Grove, Oakbrook, Villa Park, and Wheaton Fire Department along with Lisle, Oakbrook Terrace, and York Center Fire Protection Districts. The Lombard Police Department assisted with traffic and scene safety.
