On Thursday, March 7, 2019 the Lombard Village Board of Trustees will hold its second workshop meeting to discuss video gaming. Workshops and meetings are open to the public.
The Village Board held its first workshop on January 24th, for discussion only. The workshop allowed the Village Board an opportunity to discuss the topic and provided members of the community to offer public comment. A total of 17 residents and business owners spoke. No formal action was taken at the initial workshop meeting.
Upon conclusion of the discussion at the January 24th workshop, no consensus on how to proceed was identified. The Village Board subsequently requested that staff prepare two draft ordinances for consideration at the March 7th workshop. The first is an ordinance amending the Village Code to permit and set forth regulations regarding video gaming and liquor licenses for gaming establishments. The second ordinance would provide for a non-binding advisory referendum on video gaming to be held at the March 17, 2020 general elections. It was agreed that these ordinances would be discussed at a future workshop session of the Village Board.
At the Village Board workshop on Thursday, March 7th at 6 p.m., the above draft ordinances will be discussed. No final action will be taken at the workshop on March 7th. Any ordinances to take final action on this issue would require review and approval at a subsequent Village Board of Trustees meeting.
In the meantime, all members of the community are encouraged educate themselves (see FAQ and videos below) and to reach out to the village with their thoughts on this issue. Comments may be submitted to email@example.com.
