2018 Senior Man and Senior Woman of the Year Announced

seniors of the year 2018

On Wednesday, October 3, Lombard's 2018 Senior Man and Senior Woman of the Year Awards were presented during the 13th Annual Senior Fair at the Community Building at Lombard Common Park. The winners will ride in the 2019 Lilac Time Parade.

The 2018 Senior Man of the Year is Ronald Knecht. Ronald has lived in Lombard since 1962 and has served in three branches of the U.S. Armed Forces including the Navy, the Army, and the U.S. Air Force. On a community level, Ronald has served as a Deacon for St. Pius Church for 35 years. With his gift of music, he plays bass guitar for St. Pius and his grandson’s special need church called ParaBles in Lombard. As an avid gardener, he can often be found tending his plot and helping other gardeners at the Lombard Community Garden, with his grandson. During his many years as a Lombard resident, Ronald has volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and has helped at Lombard’s clean-up events.

The Senior Woman of the Year is Barb Madigan. Barb has been a Lombard resident and volunteer in the community for more than 25 years. She has donated her time and efforts to supporting Lombard by serving as President of the 5th District of the General Federation of Women’s Club, the 2nd Vice President to the Lombard Historical Society, and Co-Vice President/Membership with the American Association of University Women’s Lombard Chapter. Barb has also volunteered with the Lombard Service League and the Lombard Garden Club. Barb’s dedication to volunteerism embodies the spirit of Lombard and encourages others to help out where they are able.

“I hope that everyone who attended the fair was able to find out about a new community group to join or a useful resource,” said Trustee Robyn Pike, Chairperson of the Community Relations Committee, which organized the event.  “We’re so glad that we’re able to recognize all of Lombard’s inspiring senior citizens.”

The Senior Fair was attended by more than 200 seniors and offered flu shots, massages and useful information from more than 40 vendors. The Senior Fair is run by the Community Relations Committee which consists of Chairperson Trustee Robyn Pike, Alternate Chairperson Trustee William Ware, and committee members, Ahmed Ali, Pamela Bedard, Jenelle Hardtke, Michael Ledonne, Sharon Vish, Barb Ware, Gladys Piper and Anthony Pacilli.
