STORM AND RAINFALL UPDATE: The Village of Lombard has received a total of 7.03 inches of rain in the past 3 days (5/14-5/17), and DuPage County remains under a Flash Flood Warning until after 10 p.m. tonight. Village staff continues to address issues related to flooded roads and storm related matters, including several stalled vehicles that have been reported. Lombard Police and Fire are reminding motorists to never drive through flooded roads. When you encounter water on the road, “turn around, don’t drown.”
All of Lombard’s pumping systems are operating at full capacity. The system operation is largely controlled by the elevation of the East Branch of the DuPage River. Pumping systems throughout the Village will continue to pump at full capacity until conditions return to normal. Several residents have requested that the Village open “gates” to help to alleviate flooding conditions; however, there is no such “gate.” There may be confusion related to the operation of the gate valves at the Elmhurst Quarry. Lombard’s system is not connected to the Elmhurst system.
If you experience or witness an unsafe situation, dial 9-1-1. Police, Fire, and Public Works are here for residents in need and continue to respond to calls for assistance. Please stay safe Lombard!
