Throughout the month of May, National Recognition dates have been established, honoring those who pursue a career in public service. The Village’s appreciation for our public service staff never waivers, however their dedicated public service and ongoing commitment to the Lombard community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic is deeply appreciated.

National Firefighter’s Day, May 4
International Firefighter’s Day is annually observed on May 4. The Lombard Fire Department serves to protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of the Village of Lombard. National Public Service Week: May 3 – 9
Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) honors the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees. The Village extends its thanks and appreciation to the valued employees and colleagues that serve Lombard.
National Economic Development Week: May 4 - 9
Economic development is a process that influences growth and restructuring of an economy to enhance the economic well-being of a community. In the broadest sense, economic development encompasses policies and programs that focus on improving the business climate, business finance, marketing, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development and others. National Police Week: May 10-16
Lombard pays tribute to those who have paid the ultimate price. Lombard Officers who were killed in the line of duty include Louis Schuetz, killed July 30, 1933; John Frost, killed Sept. 1936; and Allan Mollsen, killed Sept. 28, 1986. Lombard Police remain vigilant in serving Lombard, and responded to 57,917 calls for service in 2019. Visit www.villageoflombard.org/police for more information.
National Public Works Week: May 17 – 23
In accordance with the tradition of the American Public Works Association, those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services are honored during National Public Works Week. Public works professionals include those who manage water, sewer, public transportation, and refuse removal systems as well as those responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds. National EMS Week: May 17 - 23
The theme for the 2020 National EMS Week is “Ready Today, Preparing for Tomorrow” focuses on recognizing the selfless calling that makes EMS so vital, specifically in the midst of a global pandemic. In 2018, the Lombard Fire Department responded to 7,425 calls for service. Of those calls 5,412 were EMS runs. The Lombard Fire Department continues to be one of the busiest in DuPage County and requires all of its firefighters to also be EMS certified.
