In compliance with Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois 5-phase plan, announced May 5, 2020, the Village is announcing the cancellation of several upcoming events. The region is currently in Phase 2, or the “Flattening” phase of the plan where nonessential gatherings of any size are prohibited. Large gatherings of greater than 50 individuals will not be permitted until Phase 5, or the “Illinois Restored” phase begins. A region will not reach Phase 5 and large gatherings will not be permitted until it is deemed post-pandemic on the basis of either a vaccine, effective and widely available treatment, or the elimination of new cases over a sustained period of time.
In light of these standards, the Village of Lombard regrets to announce the cancellation of all special events and concerts scheduled through August. This includes Memorial Day (5/25) Cruise Nights & Summer Concerts Series (June – August) and the 4th of July Fireworks display. The Village will continue to assess the progress of the Restore Illinois Plan, for consideration of events beyond August. Updates will be shared as they are made available.
The Village’s events are funded through hotel-motel sales tax, which is paid for by visitors and overnight stays in Lombard hotels. The hotel-motel fund is designated to be spent on promoting tourism and funding Village events. Village events are not funded through property taxes.
The Village is committed to resuming programs and events as soon as permitted by the State of Illinois. We understand that this information is disappointing and we too will miss these summer traditions. We are all looking forward to the day when we can once again come together to plan and enjoy community celebrations.
Should the state of Illinois rules be amended or change in a way that would allow public events we will revisit the issue at that time to determine if we are able to schedule programs later in the year.
