Lombard Public Works to Conduct Spring Hydrant Maintenance

Community Updates Posted on April 08, 2026

The Lombard Public Works Department will begin its annual hydrant maintenance program on Monday, April 13, 2026, weather permitting. Work will take place over a four-week period, with crews servicing more than 1,000 fire hydrants throughout the Village.

Maintenance will occur during the late afternoon and early evening hours and is not expected to interrupt water service for residents or businesses.

This routine work helps keep Lombard’s water system operating safely and reliably. During maintenance, crews inspect each hydrant, lubricate moving parts, and ensure caps can be easily removed when needed. These steps help ensure hydrants are ready for use during emergencies and for routine system maintenance.

Village crews will focus their efforts in areas from the Illinois Prairie Path south to Roosevelt Road. Residents are encouraged to refer to the 2025 Hydrant Maintenance Area Map (PDF) for additional details on work locations.

For questions about the hydrant maintenance program, please contact the Public Works Department at (630) 620-5740 or email publicworks@villageoflombard.org.
