The Purpose of the Project is: To rehabilitate sanitary manholes that are deteriorating structurally, subject to corrosive hydrogen sulfide gases (H2S), or have inflow and infiltration (I & I) issues. I & I is groundwater and/or storm water that flows into a dedicated sanitary sewer.
Project Schedule: June - September
Bid Opening: April 23, 2018
Project Award: May 3, 2018
Project Start: Week of June 11th 2018
Project Completion: Early September 2018
Newsletters & Notices: One notice will be mailed to affected residents and businesses to inform you of a structure in the vicinity of your property is part of the project and will be repaired sometime over the next ninety (90) days.
Why is this project necessary? Just like any other asset, structures deteriorate over their service life and need to be periodically maintained. By lining manholes, corrosion due to H2S is significantly reduced and the service life of the structure is extended. Grouting the structure serves to eliminate inflow and infiltration (I & I). I & I increases waste water treatment cost as all of the water entering a water treatment facility must be treated. Therefore as additional wastewater is treated, operational costs increase.
How does this benefit the Village? By rehabilitating the structure, two benefits are incurred. A) I & I are reduced and in turn treatment costs are reduced. B) Installing an epoxy lining system weathers the corrosive environment within a structure and therefore extends the service life of the manhole.
Will there be detours? There will be short term lane reductions and some parking spots may be utilized by the contractor during working hours.
