 6/14   Newsletter #1

Why is this project necessary? The elimination of sewer odor is the primary objective of the project. Current methods are only effective for a short time and still are not effective under certain weather and/or operating conditions. Like any other asset, manholes deteriorate over their service life and need to be periodically maintained. By lining the manholes, corrosion due to H2S is significantly reduced and the service life of the structure is extended.
How does this benefit the Village? The scope of the project will have three benefits. One is the reduction of sewer odors, the second is the rehabilitation of the manhole and the third is the construction of an emergency bypass in the event there are any issues related to the servicing or maintain the discharge manhole.
Will there be detours? Yes, traffic will not be allowed thru the intersection during construction. Residents along Wilson and Edson Avenues will have access to their driveways. Wilson Avenue residents who live west of the intersection should enter and leave from Finley Road. Those who live east of the intersection should access Wilson Avenue from Main or Elizabeth Streets. Residents on streets south of Wilson should use Central Avenue or Edward Street as their primary alternate east or west route. Residents on streets north of Wilson Avenue should use Ethel Avenue as their alternate east west route. Motorists who are not local residents should utilize Edward Street or Ethel Avenue as an east /west detour route.

Construction Updates

7/31/18 - The contractor placed curb and pavement on the northwest and southeast section of the intersection. Concrete work will continue through today.  On Thursday, the Vortex manhole will be re-sprayed with additional cement liner.  The last of the concrete pavement will be placed on Friday, with the intersection projected to reopen on 8/13, following the curing period.
7/23/18 - Schroeder & Schroeder Inc. will be doing the concrete work (curb, sidewalk & pavement) at the Edson/Wilson intersection starting July 25th. Work should be completed by the end of the month and the roadway will be re-opened after the concrete cures (pending test results). Anticipated opening of the road is August 3rd.
7/16/18 - The Village's contractor has substantially completed their work at the Edson & Wilson intersection. The traffic control will be left in place until a second contractor has completed the concrete paving of the intersection and the installation of new sidewalk at the northeast corner of the intersection. Work should resume the week of July 23rd. The intersection is on schedule to re-open in early August prior to the start of school.
7/10/18 - A sub-contractor is repairing the main manhole that will house the IPEX unit. The structure is being lined with cement and grouted as necessary. It will take one day to cure. The general contractor will be back on-site after the concrete cures to install the IPEX unit.
7/9/18 - The secondary sewer bypass is being established today. A pump is necessary to accomplish this task. There will be some noise from the pumping operation. The noise is reduced to the extent possible by a muffler and by isolating the engine to reduce vibration.

During the 4th of July Holiday, please make visitors, friend and family aware of the Edson/Wilson closure.

The contractor has removed the concrete pavement and is proceeding to install a bypass for the pressurized sanitary sewer. No work will occur on the 4th. Weather permitting, work will resume on the 5th.
