Lombard Public Works is beginning a Traffic Signal Modernization Program. The program will install new LED traffic signals that are more durable, longer lasting, energy efficient, and visible.
The Program will improve 24 signalized intersections throughout the Village over the next four years. The improved intersections will include updated pedestrian signals and push buttons that are easier to use, providing pedestrians with a countdown timer displaying the remaining time to safely cross the intersection. These intersections will be more resilient due to battery backup systems that will continue to operate the traffic signals when electrical power is lost.
Intersections located along St. Charles Road and Main Street including near downtown Lombard, Glenbard East High School, and Glenn Westlake Middle School are prioritized due to the higher number of pedestrians. The Village’s contractors will begin work this Spring and temporary lane closures may be required. Motorists are asked to be cautious around workers and to follow signs when posted.
The program is in conjunction with the Village’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. Information is available at www.villageoflombard.org/bikelombard. Please contact Public Works at (630) 620-5740 or email@example.com with any questions.
