Union Pacific Railroad has announced the anticipated closure of the Elizabeth Street crossing from September 12 – September 30, 2016 for a railroad crossing improvement project.

The scope of the project includes the addition of a new crossing system which will help to minimize safety concerns between train, motor vehicle, and pedestrian interaction. Detours will be in place for the duration of the project and will utilize the Main Street underpass for all transportation modes. In addition, pedestrian traffic may utilize the Metra Underpass Tunnel. The Metra station and platforms will remain open throughout the duration of the project.

The crossing improvement project is primarily a Union Pacific Railroad project, in conjunction with the Illinois Commerce Commission and the Village of Lombard. It is funded by the Grade Crossing Protection Fund through the State of Illinois. Please call Public Works at (630) 620-5740 or email with questions.
