On Sunday, June 19 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the 100 E block of Madison Street in Lombard.
The call was in regards to a single family home at the southeast corner of the intersection of Madison and Charlotte Streets. The call was initially dispatched as an outdoor deck fire but Lombard firefighters upgraded the call twice to a ‘Special Alarm’ which brought in assistance from other departments to the scene and our stations. The residents were home at the time of the fire and self-evacuated. The origin of the fire appears to be in the area of a propane grill on the deck of the home. The exact cause and origin of the fire are being investigated.
The damage to the home and contents is significant and estimated to be over $150,000. One Lombard firefighter was injured from falling debris and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was treated and later released.
Lombard was assisted by the following fire agencies: Carol Stream, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Lisle Woodridge, Oak Brook, Villa Park, and Wheaton Fire Departments. Also, the Addison and Glenside, Fire Protection Districts.
