Bring unwanted, or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal to the Lombard Police Department at 235 E. Wilson Ave., on Saturday, April 30th, from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
The Village of Lombard is participating in the Drug Enforcement Agency sponsored National Take Back Day, an event that addresses the vital public safety and public health issue of prescription drug abuse and accidental poisonings. Many Americans are not aware that expired or unwanted medicines commonly found in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends’ home medicine cabinets. This event provides residents a safe solution for drug disposal. The previous nine national wide Take-Back events have collected 4,823,251 pounds, or 2,411 tons of drugs.
“This is great opportunity for people to bring in their unwanted or expired prescription drugs,” said Lombard Deputy Chief Tom Wirsing. “Residents can help keep Lombard safe by going through their medicine cabinets and bringing in medications to be properly disposed.”
