The Village of Lombard is currently accepting applications for its 2016 Youth Leadership Program. High school students that live in Lombard are encouraged to apply in order to learn from leaders in various departments.
These departments include the Village Manager’s Office, Finance, Community Development, Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments.
Classes are scheduled for Thursday evenings: April 7th from 4 – 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave.; April 14th, 4 – 6 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 50 E. St. Charles Rd.; and on April 21st, 7 – 9 p.m. at Village Hall. During the final session, students will meet with Village President Keith Giagnorio and the Village Board of Trustees and will view a regularly scheduled board meeting. Students will be presented with a certificate of completion and recognized for their work.
The Youth Leadership program is an initiative of the Village’s Community Relations Committee, which is focused on creating and fostering relationships between the Village of Lombard and its residents. “The goal of the program is to provide the opportunity for high school aged Lombard students to learn about the inner workings of their local government. It also allows students to see how each department works together to get things done,” said Community Relations Chair and Village of Lombard Trustee Robyn Pike. “This is a fun experience, a great way to learn about the Village, and it could also be a helpful addition to college resumes.”
Students interested in applying should fill out the attached application and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or return it to Village Hall by March 25. Applications will be accepted beyond the deadline if space permits and priority will be given to Lombard residents. Class size will be kept to 10 or less and must reach a minimum of 7 in order to take place.
