At approximately 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a garage fire on the 800 block of East St. Charles Rd.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Howell, “Fire companies encountered a fully involved detached garage with fire threatening the neighboring home to the north. The fire response was upgraded to a ‘Special Alarm’ which brought in additional resources from neighboring fire departments to help cover calls at both of our fire stations.”
The garage is located on Highland Ave., and was completely destroyed in the fire, along with a vehicle inside. Additionally, there was exposure damage to the neighboring home to the north. Commonwealth Edison cut power to the entire block for approximately 20 minutes. Lombard Police shut down St. Charles Road in both directions for a short period of time.
The owner was not home at the time of the fire and the 9-1-1 call was made by a neighbor. No injuries to citizens or first responders were reported and the damage estimated to the garage and contents is $50,000. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Lombard was assisted by The Addison, Carol Stream, Oak Brook Terrace and York Center Fire Protection Districts as well as Elmhurst, Lisle Woodridge and Villa Park Fire Departments. Please feel free to contact Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Howell with any questions at (630)620-5761.
