The 7th Heaven concert scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 7 - 9 p.m., will be relocated to the south side of the railroad tracks, near the Metra pedestrian tunnel, due to Police concerns over pedestrian safety.
The Village of Lombard hosts summer concerts during Cruise Night events on Saturdays throughout the summer months. This Saturday night is the final event of the season, and features the popular cover band, 7th Heaven. As always, this is a family friendly event and NO alcohol is allowed.
During an American English concert that took place on July 25, 2015, the concert location reached maximum capacity. Large crowds and record amounts of attendees raised concerns about future concerts in the same area of S. Park (between St. Charles and the train tracks). It was determined that a solution would have to be made before the next large concert event was to take place this Saturday night.
Village Staff, Police, and Public Works considered alternative locations in the Downtown area for the event. Several of the alternatives involved closing a portion of St.Charles Rd., which was determined to be a large traffic concern. The location of Parkside Ave. along Lilacia Park provides a large amount of space to concert goers, and avoids the closure of major roads.
The Metra Underpass Tunnel allows for easy access from the north to the south side of the train tracks, and will provide concert goers with a convenient access between the concert, and Cruise Night cars. Event goers may use 2-hour street parking which expires at 6 p.m. (visitors may park at 4 p.m.), library parking (after 5 p.m.) and handicapped parking will be available in the church lot at the corner of S. Park and Parkside. There will be temporary bathrooms available at the event as well as a wash station.
The band will play from 7 - 9 p.m., and Cruise Nights is from 6 - 10 p.m.
