Lombard Fire Department

At approximately 10:50 a.m. Monday, August 3, The Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of smoke at the Maple Street Chapel at 220 South Main in Lombard.

The fire was reported by someone in the building and an internal fire alarm had been activated. Lombard fire crews arrived within minutes and identified smoke coming from a west side exterior wall of the historic wooden structure. According to Acting Battalion Chief Frank Gallione, fire crews quickly attacked the small fire from the outside of the building and the basement.

Crews from Lombard and neighboring communities were on scene for approximately 40 minutes extinguishing the fire and thoroughly searching to make sure there was no additional extension of fire in the structure. Maintenance work was being conducted on the building at the time the fire was reported. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation. The damage to the building is estimated to be under $30,000 and there were no injuries reported. Lombard was assisted on the scene by the Addison, Lisle Woodridge and York Center Fire Protection Districts as well as the Downers Grove, Oak Brook, Villa Park and Wheaton Fire Departments.
