Members of the Lombard Police Department will be participating in fundraising events to support Special Olympics, including the "Cop on Top" event, Friday, May 29, atop the Dunkin Donuts at 1160 S. Main Street from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Lombard police officers will be on the rooftop of the Dunkin Donuts at 1160 S. Main St. to help raise funds for Special Olympics Illinois. Everyone who stops by the Main Street store and makes a donation to Special Olympics Illinois will receive a coupon for a free donut. Each guest stopping by and making at least a $10 donation will receive a Law Enforcement Torch Run travel mug (while supplies last) along with a medium coffee.

U.S. 99.5 FM will be doing a broadcast live from the location from 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and former White Sox player Ron Kittle will make an appearance along with White Sox mascot, South Paw. Torch Run t-shirts, hats and pins will also be for sale and raffle tickets will be sold for a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

In addition, the DuPage County Torch Run event will pass through Lombard on Sunday morning, June 6th beginning at Main Street and Wilson, running north to Main and Parkside, at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle, raising nearly 3.7 million dollars in Illinois during 2014.

Last year law enforcement officers carried the Flame of Hope and volunteered to support nearly 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and nearly 21,000 young athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities and their families.

Please contact Lt. Velazquez by calling 630-873-4485 or at the Lombard Police Department with questions.
