  7. 9/11 Moment of Silence and All Day Open House

    September 11, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM @ Fire Station 1

    Join the Lombard Fire Department for a brief ceremony which will include a gathering near the flag pole in front of the fire station at 8:45 a.m. for a moment of silence and some brief comments by the Fire Department. The ceremony will last approximately 15 minutes, and will include a moment of silence. Light refreshments will then be served in the fire station. The Fire Department will house an open house from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 11. The public is welcome to drop in and say hello. Residents are invited to share in this moment and to join the Fire Department with an open house.

    The Village of Lombard invites you to help save even more lives at its "We Remember" Blood Drive on Wednesday, September 16, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yorktown Entrance 2, and from 1:30 to 7 p.m. at the Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave. This blood drive honors the memory of the 9/11 tragedy. “Whether it's an emergency, or to help long term illnesses, every three seconds, someone needs blood. The donations collected by the Village of Lombard blood drives have helped save the lives of thousands of people in Illinois and Indiana. You can make a life changing impact in someone’s lives by donating.” said Carol Bauer, the Village’s Blood Drive Coordinator. Donors may register for an appointment by creating a free account at Heartland Blood Center's website , and walk-ins are welcome.

    Participants can enjoy a 5K timed run, 5K untimed walk or 1 Mile Fun Walk, in addition to a variety of entertainment and activities. The event site will open at 6:30 am, and the 5K Run will begin at 8:30 am, following the Survivor Parade. Susan Tybon, Komen Chicago’s CEO, noted, “We are so grateful to have the opportunity to bring the Race for the Cure to Lombard and its surrounding suburbs. Komen Chicago provides grants for many breast health and breast cancer services in DuPage County, so raising awareness and funds within the communities we serve is extremely impactful.” Lombard Race Chairperson, Joan Knippen, added, “I am lucky to have the opportunity to be the Lombard Race Chair for the third year. Being able to promote breast cancer awareness, and the Race, which directly helps fund breast healthcare locally is something I am truly passionate about.
