Why is this project necessary?
The installation of the transmission main is necessary to allow the transfer of water from the low pressure zone to the high pressure zone without causing significant head losses and pressure drops in and around the South Booster Station.
How does this benefit the Village?
To supply ample water for fire fighting in the high water pressure zone.
Will there be detours?
Yes. Use Central for the closure of Wilson from Stewart to Edgewood; use Madison for the closure of east bound traffic on Wilson from Fairfield to School; use Westmore-Meyers for potential road impacts on School from Wilson to 14th St.
Will the road be closed?
Yes. Wilson from Stewart to Edgewood will be closed for the pavement re-construction. East bound traffic on Wilson from Fairfield to School will be closed for the construction of the transmission main.
Will my driveway be inaccessible?
Driveways will be temporarily inaccessible only when work is being performed in front of your home. Residents will have driveway access by the end of the work day.
Will my water be affected?
There will be no scheduled water service interruptions
* The construction of the Transmission Main to the Village of Lombard water system is financed by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
All schedules are tentative and can be affected by weather as well as other construction delays.
10/28/16: Today the contractor will finish all asphalt patches and grinding on Wilson and on School (Wilson to Roosevelt), however, the eastbound lane of Wilson will remain closed until the road is resurfaced. It is anticipated that all roads will be resurfaced by mid-November
10/3/16: All of the side streets between Stewart and Edgewood have reopened to through traffic with the exception of northbound Fairfield. Unfortunately the contractor was not able to complete the concrete placement on Friday, however, the concrete will be completed today. It is anticipated that northbound Fairfield will reopen Thursday.
9/23/16: Wilson between Stewart and Edgewood has officially reopened to through traffic both eastbound and westbound. However, eastbound Wilson between Edgewood and School remains closed. The detour route map for the closure is at the top of this page. Concrete was placed on Lombard, Grace, LaLonde and Fairfield north of Wilson yesterday and today. Those side streets are anticipated to be open sometime next week.
9/19/16: Motorists Driving On Unfinished Cement Cause Potential Delay of Project
Wilson between Stewart to Edgewood was scheduled to reopen to traffic on 9/23, but the schedule is subject to delay due to necessary concrete repair caused by motorists. Concrete was originally poured around new manholes on Wilson Ave., this past Thursday, 9/15. Unfortunately, motorists ignored signage and drove over 4 out of the 5 newly poured concrete areas. The concrete will have to be repoured and could potentially delay the opening of Wilson between Stewart to Edgewood. The Village would like to thank the residents who notified Public Works of the violations, and would encourage residents to report any future occurrences to 9-1-1 for immediate response. Reports have also been made of individuals moving or relocating detour signs, barricades, and barrels in order to navigate through a construction zone. The Village is reminding residents to NOT tamper with construction sites and to call 9-1-1 to report any such violations.
9/9/16: The tentative schedule for the weeks of 9/12/16 & 9/19/16 is as follows:
- By 9/16 pavement on the north side of Wilson from Stewart to Edgewood will be placed.
- By 9/16 sidewalks at each intersection along Wilson from Stewart to Edgewood will be placed.
- By 9/23 Wilson from Stewart to Edgewood is anticipated to open to westbound and eastbound traffic.
- By 9/23 the installation of the transmission main on Wilson from Edgewood to School is anticipated to be completed.
8/12/16: The Village has completed the construction of the eastbound travel lane of Wilson between Stewart Avenue and Edgewood Avenue that was done in conjunction with the Water Transmission Main Project. Work has commenced on the roadway work for westbound Wilson Avenue. All traffic will continue to move west only, on the newly paved southern lane of Wilson. NO eastbound traffic is available in the detour and the Lombard Police Department will be strictly enforcing the area. Follow posted signage.
8/10/16: The south side of Wilson Ave. has been resurfaced and is now open to westbound traffic, and construction on the north side of Wilson Ave. will begin Friday, August 12.
The contractor will start removing pavement on the north side of Wilson Ave on Friday, August 12. Therefore, the north side of the road is closed starting today (August 10). However, until the gaps are filled between the north and south side, homeowners will continue to use the north side of the road to access driveways. Only westbound travel will be permitted. Residents can only access the north side of the road from southbound Fairfield north of Wilson. When leaving your driveway, please travel westbound on Wilson to northbound Lombard.
8/5/16: Starting August 5th, the contractor is working on directional drilling the water main at the School & Roosevelt Rd. crossing as well as on School from Roosevelt Rd. to 14th Street. Therefore, School St. is closed to through traffic. See the "Additional Detour for School Street" above.
Directional drilling for the water main on School from Wilson to Morris is complete. The contractor will work on the water main connections at the intersections of School & Morris and School & Norton next week. School Street from Wilson to Roosevelt is still closed to traffic.
• By next Friday, September 16, north side pavement of Wilson from Stewart to Edgewood will be placed.
• By next Friday, September 16, sidewalks at each intersection along Wilson from Stewart to Edgewood will be placed.
• By September 23, Wilson (westbound and eastbound) from Stewart to Edgewood is anticipated to be open to traffic.
• By September 23, the installation of the transmission main on Wilson from Edgewood to School is anticipated to be completed.
